Catherine Davies (1773 – after 1841) was a Governess in Naples to Joachim Murat and his wife, who were the King and Queen of Naples. Davies later sold her story in a book in 1841. ==Life== Davies was born in Beaumaris in 1773.〔William Roberts, ‘Davies, Catherine (b. 1773, d. in or after 1841)’, rev. J. Gilliland, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press, 2004 (accessed 16 Dec 2014 )〕 She was employed by Caroline Bonaparte who was the younger sister of Napoleon Bonaparte. Caroline and her husband were appointed to be the Queen and King of Naples in 1808 and Davies continued to look after their son, Prince Achille Murat. It is in this year that Davies starts to write her story. In her autobiography Davies says that she did not publish an account of her life in Paris before 1808 as others had done it so well. Davies was employed in Naples under the Head Governess who was the Duchess de Rochino assisted by the Countess Picherno. Davies did not speak Italian but could converse in French and the household also provided for her to have a companion. When the future Queen Caroline visited the Murats she befriended Davies. This was not expected but Caroline did not always act as she was advised. Davies was invited to the Princess's residence where her Abbe Taylor conducted services for her. Davies had returned to live in Wales in 1818. Her knowledge of the Princess meant that when, the now, Queen Caroline was put on trial in 1820 for adultery, Davies was scheduled to appear in court. As it was, Davies was never called to give evidence.〔 In 1841 Davies published her book ''Eleven Years' Residence in the Family of Murat, King of Naples'' was published with a foreword by Achille Murat. Her life after this event is unknown, but she is presumed to have died shortly after 1841.〔 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Catherine Davies (governess)」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
